The Great Southern Trendkill
by
Pantera
(I love Pantera, and this is a great album, music wise, as such, I have decided to be as unbaised as possible)

Do you like Fast Strumming? The same speed as Thrasher, if not faster?

To sum up the majority of this song, its strumming very quickly on the green fret, combined with a chord + hammer on riff that is fairly awkward to hit. The solo doesn't make up for the hand cramp of the main riff. Not to say the solo isn't fairly fun, but I don't think this is a song you'd play very often, unless you want to break your wrists.

Your Decision

Alice In Chains
Fun, Fun, Fun. An acoustic chord riff with the occasional guitar lick thrown in. More than occasional, seems to be all the time. A fun solo, and then more licks. This was probably my favourite track to play out of the whole pack this week, and I'd reccomend it wholey to guitar players. You'll have great fun with chords, hammer on chords, regular hammer on, single notes. Nothing too challenging, and nothing boring.

We Die Young

Chords. If you're going to do them, do them fun. This is a great example of how to use chords effectively. featuing a really fun chord hammer on riff, with some chord chugging on green, it feels great to play. The solo kicks in with some fast strumming down the fretboard, then with a few slow sweeps. Overall, I'd really reccomend this, but you'd really have to be good with chords, otherwise this will kill you.

Last Of My Kind
by
Alice In Chains
It's my favourite song off the album. The song starts off to a good start, a wierd sort of single note strummed riff with hammer ons thrown in. Then the chorus starts, and its not bad, chugging on green with some chords and hammer on chords. The solo kicks in, and it's awesome, fun runs quickly up and down. Similar to the Boston sweeps, but not as fast. Problem is, it's over too fast. Then we've got a sort of average ending with single notes and hammer ons. It's fun, and I'd play it again.

Heaven Beside You
by
Alice In Chains
With an intro that sounded-stevie ray vaughn-ish, I was liking this song. However, the majority of it is slow strumming chords. There is some saving grace though, some slow, but fun acoustic/non-distorted hammer on bits, and a rather fun solo. If you like the song, I'd reccomend picking it up, as this is good. However, if you're not a fan of AiC, grunge, or similar sounding music, you might want to avoid this track.

Grind
by
Alice In Chains
Ok, Imagine the pyschosocial riff, and you've pretty much got the main riff of grind, alongisde a fun little hammer on part. Starting off with some pretty fun hammer ons as well, and a rocking solo, this is a track you should pick up, unless you really dislike the music. The solo features up and down sweeps, trills, fast(but not too) strumming.

(You Can Still) Rock In America
by
Night Ranger
Wow. Both of the Night Ranger songs I bought failed to dissapoint.

The main riff is mostly alt strumming single notes to chords on the same notes, but it features little hammer on runs up the fretboard, and changes about to different strumming styles, different chords. It is genuinely fun to play. The chorus riff is a bit different, but moves all over, shame about the lack of hammer ons in that, but despite that it's still quite fun. The solo features a up and down sweep of the fretboard which is really fun. If you can hit it, you'll find yourself not strumming and just running up and down the fretboard board. Good stuff. The song then carries on to the next solo, which is even faster, crazier runs down. I found this quite hard to combo, and almost failed on my sightread.

Another great guitar song, which I'd reccomend to anyone, as long as you can pass it.

Don't Tell Me You Love Me
by
Night Ranger
Wow. I'd never heard of Night Ranger before, so this is all new to me.

The song starts with this clean sounding riff, that's really wierd. It's a 3 strum with a hammer on, but the hammer on is in a different place the next time. It's wierd, but still fun. Then comes the main riff, an alt strum on single notes with chords. The main riff isn't really that fun. It changes around a lot, not just the same style strumming on the same chord luckily. (Green day pack, I'm looking at you). Anyway, the song really stays the same until you hit the solo. Starting with some sweeps and some trills, the solo already is quite fun. Then we hit the strange sweeping motion part of the solo. Now this is like descending scale, then ascending, but it's really difficult to hit. But its geniunely fun!

After the solo you've got the main riff again, but with a hammer on chord bit, and a trill-solo-esc sounding bit. Then the second solo starts, which is a shame, because I enjoyed all the track except for this. Some really wierd, Super awkward chord strum to chord hammer on to regular hammer on bit that I couldnt read, and was really unfun to even try, followed by some scales.

Don't let that put you off though, this is an awesome guitar track, and if you can pass it, I'd reccomend anyone to it.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

NIrvana
Na-na-na, Chicka-chicka na na, na na na, chicka-chicka, na na.

Yeah, that's the sound you'll hear. A lot. Then a single held note blue to orange riff.
Then there's a chordy alt strumming riff that's kinda awkward. Followed by the guitar solo which is easy, but I guess it fits in with the song.

You didn't buy this for the chart though. Did you?

Sulfur
by
Slipknot
A lot of people are going to rate this song well, as it's WTFOMG Difficult. Yes, it is a very difficult song to hold a combo on a majority of the time, but it's just not that fun overall. The songs main riff revolves around alt strumming green with some seemingly-off tempo single note strumming that often breaks combo. Then we've got the occasional god-like-speed strumming speed changing notes, which is not fun, for anyone. The chorus riff is a chord strum, nothing too special. Then we get to the solo, which is like trying to read a packet of skittles being thrown at your face. It's crazy, all over the place with random strumming. If you enjoy that thing, then you'll love this track. Returning to the standard riff again, this song was enjoyable. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't a regretabble purchase. I'd reccomend it for difficulty whores, and people that enjoy the song. If you can't do hard songs, DO NOT PICK THIS UP.

Psychosocial
by
Slipknot
The best out of the slipknot pack. Featuring a fun-ish riff, none of the constant alt strumming of Duality, or the general awkward-ness of Sulfur. The main guitar riff is just single note strumming with a hammer-on chord bit, but it feels right, and fun to play. The guitar solo is excellent, with sweep runs up and down the fretboard with some challenging strumming within it. The only thing that really makes this song loose some points is it's lack in variation outside of the guitar solo. But I'd still recommend it, as It's great fun to play regardless.

Duality
by
Slipknot
Do you like awkward alt strumming single notes? If you do, pick up Slipknot's Duality.

This is NOT a fun chart to play, mostly revolving around playing awkward tempo single notes, with the occasional chord riff + Hammer on.
If you don't like the song? Don't pick it up for guitar. Because.. it's not very fun, at all.

Viva La Gloria!
by
Green Day
Ugh. A big ugh. Probably the worst song on guitar I've played in a long time. A long waiting time at the start whilst billie joe wails on the piano, then the guitar kicks in, and surprise suprise, single notes and chords. Nothing is fun on guitar at all. A major avoid. Unless you LOVE the song, don't pick it up for guitar. And even if you do, I can't really see anyone enjoying this.

Last of the American Girls
by
Green Day
Probably the best out of this pack, and that's saying a lot. Yes, there's lots of chords. Lots, and LOTS of chords. There's this little variation on single notes that sounds kinda cool to play, but it isn't really fun. I can't see myself wanting to come back to playing this again. I can't even remember if there is a guitar solo.

Christian's Inferno
by
Green Day
What did I expect from this track? Not much. Not much.

Starts with some wierd single note strumming, at an awkward tempo, then turns into a alt strum fest. Rinse and repeat a few times, then we get the guitar "solo", about 12 held notes changing from green to yellow to orange.

Very boring track. Avoid for guitar, Avoid.

More Than Meets The Eye
by
Testament
Testament has long since been a favourite band of mine, a band I feel is one of those "classic" metal bands. However, More than meets the eye is the evolution of Testament, and today we have "The Formnation of Damnation", a brand new album.

Now let me just get this out of the way. If you can't gallop strum, you're going to HATE this song. It's full of it. Personally, I love gallop strumming, and the bass fills in this song are great, full of quirky little hammer-ons, and full of wicked heavy bass. The Only thing that stops this track being 5 stars is the repetitive-ness of the gallop strumming, it can be a bit tedious. However, this is a track that metal bassists should buy, or at least consider.

Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force
If you are a particually skilled guitarist, who can pass this song, it is GREAT fun, with sweeps up and down, and all sorts of varied hammer ons and pull offs.

However. If you dont think you could pass this on expert, or hard, I would give this one, and perhaps the whole pack a miss until you feel you are skilled enough to pass.

Fairly Decent song, albeit a little easy, but ultimately fun to play, but nothing that would shock you
