Songs Announced, in Playtesting, or in Peer Review

The list (below) is those songs that have been officially SUBMITTED with the intent to be released. Not all of them will pass review, and some may take ten or more revised releases to finally make the grade.
The short “Life and Times of a Wannabe RBN Song”:
It gets submitted.
It goes through standard playtesting for two weeks.
If the creator thinks it’s ready, it goes up for Peer Review.
Eight positive peer reviews and it gets through; one “fatal flaw” failure or a few “minor flaw” failures and it’s back to the drawing board.Either way, it vanishes from the ‘Peer Review’ list, and those of us in the Beta won’t know if it’s been approved until we see it appear in the Approved list a few days later (or back in playtesting as a new revision number).

Good points. I for one don’t mind “wading through” all the various tracks – as I said previously in this thread, I had never heard of the majority of bands/songs on the list…so unless I knew I wouldn’t like the sound of a particular band (death metal I’m looking at you) I listened to every track that’s been announced, and even some stuff from bands that were rumored/announced but w/o specific songs yet. I’ve enjoyed the process, and I now have ~15 first-day buys out of the songs that have been approved, with a few dozen others that I might consider.
My argument is more devil’s advocacy here b/c I know most people aren’t patient/curious enough to listen to hundreds of songs they’ve never heard of, just to find a few to download.
I’m pretty sure the only aspect of the peer review process that takes into account the music itself at all is checking for inappropriate lyrics or copyrighted material. Everything else is the charts. The actual quality of the music is supposed to have no effect on whether a song passes review whatsoever, whether it’s a joke or not, as long as the chart’s are good and the song fits within Rock Band’s T rating.
Yes, songs get released to some very, very small niches, but that’s part of what’s so great about RBN. It can have stuff that would never, ever make it into normal Rock Band, as long as the people making the music want to put in the work (or hire someone) to get it up. Right now, there’s a solo acoustic guitar track in playtesting. How many people will buy that? Probably very few. But it’s still there, and peer review won’t stop it just because it only has one instrument.
I think musical taste is just way too subjective overall for the music itself to be filtered for RBN. No matter how many people think a song’s absolutely terrible, someone decided to make it, and if someone decided to make it chances are someone else will decide to listen to it. Plenty of music that one person can’t stand will be amazing to another (death metal’s an obvious example), and I don’t think it’s anyone’s place, or even the playtesting/reviewing community’s place as a whole, to decide that a song shouldn’t make it to RBN purely because of the music itself when the lyrical content and charts are perfectly fine.
Sure, this creates a lot of stuff to filter through when you’re looking for songs, but it also means that any band you like, no matter how many other people dislike them, can make it into the game, and I think that’s awesome.

Hey, I’m part of the band Audio Ammunition and noticed that both of our songs (War Against the Radio and Honeys Takin’ Money) are on this list. We signed on with RA a few months ago. Does the inclusion on the list mean the songs have been submitted and are going through the approval process? Because I haven’t seen anything on @RBNNews that they entered the system.

As far as I know, they’ve only been announced. My topic over on ScoreHero was a bit more clear on that, but I hadn’t copied it over here until you pointed it out. I figured that the lists were broken up enough as is, so I didn’t make a distinction between songs that had been announced and those that had actually entered playtesting or peer review. Sorry for the confusion.
No problem. That’s what I thought. We definitely were announced last year by RA and we’re looking forward to being in the game. Looking forward would be an understatement.

This list is very comprehensive…it seems to include any artists/songs that have in some form or another confirmed their participation in RBN. I am not a playtester but I have access to the RBN creators forum, and I have seen no evidence that your songs are in playtesting.
Of course, the best way to get an update is probably to contact RA directly. Good luck!

This is the first version up in playtesting, and it makes me happy.
Actually, the guitar chart has a LOT of problems, but I’ve already sent an email stating what should be corrected to make it accurate (mostly the chord charting in the bridge and a lot of 16 notes being charted as 8th notes). The drum, vocal and bass charts are looking pretty good though, and I’m not disappointed at all because it’s obviously still just a first version
