Harmonix today confirmed a slew of artists to grace the toy-turned-crazy popular video game, LEGO Rock Band and, among the named artists lies some clear hope and enthusiasm for the music-game with such artists including Bon Jovi, Sum 41, and Blink 182.
Harmonix is promising a humorous take on the music-game genre with LEGO Rock Band, and with a new Super Easy setting, even the lowliest of rockers can enjoy the spoils of the genre that has so swept the video game community.
“You Give Love a Bad Name” -Bon Jovi
“In Too Deep” -Sum 41
“Accidentally In Love”- Counting Crows
“Tick Tick Boom”- The Hives
“Aliens Exist”- blink-182
Is it wrong that I’m super-anxious for a lot of these “kid” songs? You Give Love a Bad Name is one of the best Karaoke songs eva, and Sum 41, blink, and the Counting Crows were the soundtrack to my life in middle school.

They announce songs for LEGO Rock Band, but not the DLC for next week? o.O
More Hives, nice.
Others are meh.
People have to look past the child-like appearance of the LEGO theme and see that the soundtrack will actually be pretty good, considering its a large sum of great hits from the past years.
@deltaXkila
DLC is realsed on Fridays, this is just a sweet tidbit to know.
Anyway super excited about these new songs, great choices for all these bands… Well except I still want Hate to Say I told You So by the Hives instead.
I really hope these songs are exportable. There aren’t too many songs that I really want here (although The Final Countdown alone makes it worth it for me), but it seems like there’s a lot of excellent party songs here. The Lego aspect might be a bit of a turnoff at parties, but export these songs to regular Rock Band and you’ve got a great set of mainstream hits for less musically adventurous people.
for me, its all about having fun. if the songs are fun to play, ill get it. and ya, what about next week dlc
Accidentally in Love? As in, the title song for Shrek 2? Wow. Yet another excellent reason to get this game. You Give Love a Bad Name isn’t too bad either.
Awesome set of songs. I can appreciate just about everything that Rock Band has to offer, but I’ve been waiting for more songs that everybody I have over can recognize. All too often I hear complaints of, “Oh, I don’t know any of these songs!” And then I end up picking just about every song. I don’t mind it, but it’s obvious that they could be enjoying themselves even more if they knew the songs they were playing.
Maroon 5 and Evanescence were a big step towards fixing that, and more blink and Sum 41 definitely help as well.
Also, that Counting Crows song was my favorite part of Shrek 2.
wow. ‘Tick Tick Boom’ has been a most wanted from me for a long time! and ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ is another awesome steal from GH5!
i’ll definitely play the LEGO way, but i really REALLY hope this this exportable to RB2. i mean it just makes sense to include these in the never ending RB library.
As I said over at DLCQP, Aliens Exist is kinda a random choice in my opinion. It’s sorta difficult to find blink-182 that’s family friendly, but I mean, First Date springs to mind.
The rest are definitely wanted addition to the library. I personally hope we’ll see some more Sum 41 head down as DLC.
WTF hives blink 182 sum 41 and bon jovi, great songs 4 a poor game, not happy!!
@phil
I wouldn’t whack it until you try it, Phil.
I was waiting for Sum 41, but that’s hands down the last one I would’ve picked! Hopefully “Fat Lip” or “No Reason” still has a shot at DLC. Kinda funny that it took so long for “You Give Love A Bad Name” to show up in the RB universe…other ones, meh!
Sum 41 is sick, so is Hives… but what do I have to do to get Walk Idiot Walk or Hate To Say I Told You So in RB? Seriously!
Good tracks.
My guess is they wont be exportable YET. Just like the Beatles game wont be exportable because it has stuff like dual mics etc which Rock Band 2 doesnt feature.
Rock band 3 however which will probably be out next yr will have all these new features and will then allow you to export all your tracks from lego, beatles, rb1,2 and all the DLC.
Thats my guess anyway, and understandable since u dont want ppl buyin lego, exporting the tracks and then neva using the game again, this way at least beatles n lego, get a year of being played b4 being put on the shelf or pre owned bin
I think a lot more people are going to be getting this game now.
I seriously wish they picked Fall Is Just Something Grownups Invented for the Hives song though. Because I can’t friggin’ find it anywhere. At least in RB I can play it.
Wait…kids like Bon Jovi? I need to hang with more kids.
yes! in too deep is my all time favorite canadian song!
@phil
Hey for all you know this game could end up being the next Ocarina of Time. It’s a big stretch but you never know until it’s released.
Great choices so far (even though they had me at Song 2 – Blur). But my biggest complaint here is how everyone is calling these songs ‘Kiddie.’ A good amount of the artists chosen are definately not ‘kiddie.’ Can focus more around the term ‘family friendly?’
Also It’s about time we get that third retro Bon Jovi track that everyone knows.
What we SHOULD be hoping for is that our already owned DLC works in Lego Rock Band. I do expect it to be exportable to the hard drive as well… so all songs can be played in each game in the franchise. Beatles:RB is excluded from all this because the deal for Harmonix to make the game says their music is exclusive to that game, and only that game. I’m hoping when all the games are out by end of 2009, DLC for Beatles, RB:U (I Guess), and then RB, RB:2, Lego:RB all use the same songs.. Rock Band Network included.
Tick Tick Boom the best music of The Hives
I’d rather export Lego RB songs to RB2 than vice versa just because I’d rather play with Rock Band avatars than Lego guys, but ideally they’ll just give the options for both. I think the ideal situation, and what I imagine Harmonix would do if they could, would be to just make it so any Rock Band game you buy will be completely exportable and compatible with all DLC and all songs exported from other games. I don’t think there’s any way that this will happen to the Beatles, as it’s pretty clear that game has no exportability and only support for Beatles DLC for licensing reasons, but I think it’s quite possible that they’ll make Lego Rock Band and Rock Band 2 completely cross-compatible.
Aliens Exist is an awesome choice. They finally choose a great blink 182 song that isn’t an overplayed single, kudos.
if this is exportable, I will probably buy it. Another alternative would be realeasing the songs as future dlc
I was already getting this game because of The Final Countdown, and I Want You Back by the Jackson 5, but heck, throw in my favorite band of all time (Bon Jovi) and i might even go out of my way to preorder this if possible.
Sorry for the double post, but when is LEGO Rock Band coming out?
Bon Jovi, Sum 41, and Counting Crows? On top of what we’ve already seen?
Sold.
@Ben
“Holiday 2009″, IIRC. I’m guessing we’ll see it in late October/early November.
This game makes me smile
. Happy music, ill buy it.
Good grief, Accidentally in Love’s second verse is like vocal purity! If this game is not exportable, there is no god.
This is sad, but I’m gonna have to admit this. I am starting to like the soundtrack for Lego Rock Band so far more than I’m liking whats been announced so far for GH5 that isn’t already in rock band.
Define “exportable.”
Would it be a problem with everybody if, say, you could only import INTO Lego Rock Band instead of OUT OF?
@Paul
Problem is they’re trying to keep a kid friendly atmosphere and some of the songs from Rock Band 1 and 2, let alone dlc is not very child friendly. So to entertain hardcore fans and to keep the kid friendly atmosphere, maybe a transferable downlaod from Lego to RB2 might be the best solution.
Yeah, they’ll probably make the game songs exportable, since there’s a lot of not-so child friendly songs in RB (for example Hammer Smashed Face). That’d take out the idea of child friendy Rock Band game quite effectively.
I’m not sure how Harmonix is looking at the issue, though, since we STILL haven’t heard anything.
What you said makes sense, but it’d also mean that people with Rock Band 2 could go out, rent Lego Rock Band, and dump the tracks for five bucks. I know that’s how RB1 to RB2 worked, but at that point Harmonix had already made their money from RB1. Doing a Lego Rock Band to Rock Band 2 transfer WOULD cost them sales on their shiny new $60 game.
On top of that, if they were do to the import the same way they did for Rock Band 1, you’d be able to delete songs at will. Don’t want your kids playing You Oughta Know or Battery? Just delete those tracks from the hard drive.
At this point, Rock Band 2 to Lego Rock Band seems more likely to me than Lego Rock Band to Rock Band 2…but I’ve been wrong plenty of times before.
“You Give Love a Bad Name”- Bon Jovi was one of the reasons I was gonna rent Guitar Hero 5 but now there are only a few songs left that need to come to rock band for me to not rent it.
I don’t think they’re trying to make Rock Band 2 obsolete with Lego Rock Band the way that Rock Band 2 did with the first one. Harmonix aren’t even the main developers; they’re only have a supervisory role. Since they still have a Rock Band 2 to sell, they’re not going to let people to rent the game just to transfer the songs, and they’re certainly not going to do that for the new game. Even if we can export, I’m still going to play through the Lego version at least once. Despite the WTF concept, it looks kind of interesting, unlike Band Hero.
tl;dr: I don’t see an export feature, at least not right away.
P.S. After seeing The Beatles: Rock Band trailers, why would you WANT to export? Unless you care more about inflating your RB2 library than the actual music.
I am definetly getting this game. Who wouldn’t want to rock out to “I Want You Back”?
i think to be honest what people are missing is this :
.. The name LEGO before something opens it to a massive fan base. I dont know how many english people use this site but i am in the UK and i know RB doesnt have anyhting like the same impact GH games do even tho RB is clearly better. I think this game is more of a gate openeer than anything else.
Good setlist building up to.
Tick Tick Boom? Sold!!!
Who Bon Jovi for kids?….. Man this may have a chance
Export into anything but RB3 seems optimistic, and even then pretty unlikely. I just hope they release The Final Countdown and You Give Love a Bad Name as DLC.
